Backgroundinformation
Dendriticcells(DCs)aretheprimaryprofessionalantigenpresentingcellsoftheimmunesystem.Theyhaveacentralfunctionfortheinitiation,programmingandregulationofantigen-specificimmuneresponses.Invitro,humanDCsareoftengeneratedfromperipheralbloodmonocytesusingGM-CSFandIL-4.Thesemonocyte-derivedDCs(Mo-DCs)havethecharacteristicsofimmatureDCs.MatureMo-DCscanbeobtainedbyculturingMo-DCsinthepresenceofmicrobial,pro-inflammatory,orTcell-derivedstimuli.Mo-DCshavebeentestedinabroadrangeofimmunotherapy-basedprotocols,primarilyforcancerresearch.
